Given that the cornet is one of the lesser-known instruments today, it comes as no surprise that the composers featured on this recording are likely to be unfamiliar to the general public – yet the hope that their music will strike a tone suited to the instrument’s idiom is not disappointed.

Thus, the unfulfilled expectation of compositional flights of fancy finds a welcome balance in the virtuoso and melodious performance delivered by Willi Budde on the diverse range of instruments he presents here, each of which is also vividly illustrated and described in the excellent accompanying booklet.
